A Closer Look at the "Making Change Happen" Workshop
The first "Making Change Happen" Workshop is this Thursday! Learn more about this fun fast-paced online workshop.
Hey Changemakers!
I’m very excited about the upcoming “Making Change Happen” workshop that’s happening this Thursday, March 21, and I want to spend some time today sharing more details.
“Making Change Happen” is a 2-hour online workshop that’s designed as a fun, hands-on look at how to be an effective changemaker in your work.
During the session, we’ll be working through a series of quick exercises that introduce some essential tools and strategies for being an effective changemaker in your organization and in your work. These exercises are outlined in a workbook I’m sending out to all participants this week before the workshop begins.
Some of the activities and themes we’ll be focusing on include:
Reflecting on our own relationship with change
Creating a focused, actionable personal change statement
Mapping our work through human connections
Building a community of change
It’s easy to want change to happen in our work. Playing an effective role at being an agent of change can be harder.
One of the big goals of this workshop is to explore common obstacles, learn how to combat them, and have clear and specific strategies that will help you act as an agent in achieving your goals.
Focus on Relationships and Connections, not Hierarchies
During this workshop, we’ll introduce one of my favorite strategies for building support for change and shifting our mindset around workplace interactions and dynamics: Mapping Relationships.
“Relational mapping,” as it is often called, is a form of rethinking our working structures. It’s an exercise that pushes us to notice the connections, relationships, and communities we have formed with other people, regardless of the rigid reporting structures and silos within our organizations. When we work to move away from our emphasis on traditional org charts based in oppressive hierarchies and power inequities, and instead focus on the human relationships we have in our work, we can begin to transform institutions and the existing power dynamics.
If you are interested in learning more about this specific strategy, I talk about it in more detail and walk you through an exercise in my post “Relationships Are Everything”.
In our “Making Change Happen” workshops, we build off of this core exercise by thinking about how we can build communities of change in our work, and how to identify those who we might want to be advocating for change alongside us. We can’t do this work alone, so it’s vital to develop strategies for bringing others on board as we make change happen.
Building Connections with Each Other
One of the best things about this kind of workshop is that it gives us all a chance to meet each other and learn from different perspectives. If number of attendees is small in one of the workshops, this means that we’ll be able to dive together into the issues. If the group is larger, we’ll use Breakout Rooms and have pair or small group discussions.
I’m also planning on leaving a little time at the end for more open ended questions so that participants can ask questions based on some of the challenges or barriers to change they might be facing in their own organizations or work contexts.
Reminders of Dates & Discounts
