Fall Institute for Changemakers - starts this Wed
There are a few spots still open, and time left to join this cohort
The Fall Institute for Changemakers starts this Wednesday and we have a fantastic group coming together so far! There are still a few spots available, and time to get registered and join this cohort.
This fall's group is shaping up to be really incredible, with participants from different types of institutions and different levels of work within their organizations. Those who have already registered will be joining us places all across the US including Texas, Missouri, Maryland, and Rhode Island. Looking forward to a few more people joining the group.
One of the best parts of each Institute is creating space for passionate changemakers to connect with each other, reflect on our change practice together, and offer collective support as we face many of the same challenges.
So if you need a bit of a reset or even some wind in your sails as you keep advocating for change in your work or your organization this year, this might be the experience you are looking for. 2023 can still be that year of positive growth and change!
The power of small steps
When we think of change, we tend to think of big dramatic shifts — radical change that sweeps across an organization like a wave. After leading workshops on change for more than 10 years, I have heard so many individuals have a passionate desire for big, system-wide change, yet without a sense of how that change can happen through a series of smaller action steps.
Through each Institute for Changemakers, we discuss the change we each want to make happen, and then we emphasize the power of small steps. How can we begin to take action now to start making this change happen? How can we envision this change being something we can control and that we can make actionable in our own work practice?
One idea that enters into our discussions about the power of small steps comes from community organizer, healer, and author adrienne maree brown. In their book Emergent Strategy, brown writes: “What we practice at the small scale sets the pattern for the whole system.”
This represents a powerful shift in thinking about change, and invites us to reflect on all the smaller actions and habits that we have, and to see them as having a role in shaping larger change. Every conversation we have shapes change. The way we show up in our work practice shapes change. The relationships we build with others (in our organizations and beyond) shapes change.
