Three Things I'm Excited about Right Now
It's a new month! Let's take a moment to share what's been on our reading & podcast lists right now
Hey Changemakers!
Happy March! It’s still winter, but Spring is around the corner, and I often like to think of the Spring season as a time of learning and growth.
So with that in mind, I want to start this this month with invitation for you to share the 3 things you’ve been reading (or listening too) that you have really enjoyed.
Whether its a fiction reads, podcasts, or more philosophical deep dives, I’d love to hear what you’ve been spending time flipping through, scrolling through, or listening to — and what are some things you might be learning from them? Add yours in the Comments section below.
Three Things I’ve been into Recently
With the Values Blueprint workshop at the top of my mind these past few weeks, a lot of what I’ve been into this past month has focused on the theme of core values.
1.
On that note, I especially enjoyed the recent episode on the The Art Engager Podcast by Claire Bown, Value Engaged Gallery Teaching with Andrew Westover.
I most appreciated the way that Andrew and their team have develop action-based methodologies for their core values, which helps a ton when it comes to putting values into practice. As Andrew states, we can't get stuck at just the 30,000' level when it comes to values. It's easy to stop when we have a set of words that make us feel good -- but they don't mean anything unless we find ways to put these values into practice.
2.
I have been re-reading Brad Stulberg’s book, The Practice of Groundedness: A Transformative Path to Success That Feeds - Not Crushes - Your Soul, after listening to it first as an audio book back in 2021. I have appreciated taking the extra time to go through the exercises that appear at the end of each chapter that assist in building a strong foundation for tough decision making in our work practices.
I also just ordered his newest book, Master of Change, and will hopefully be sharing more about it soon!
3.
I’m really excited to share that this June I’ll be in London as a keynote speaker at this summer’s MuseumNext conference! I’ve been going through the program and list of speakers this past week, and am getting very excited about the week of workshops and talks. It’s the first in-person MuseumNext conference for many years, and it is going to be such an incredible gathering of museum thinkers & changemakers.
Bonus
If you know me at all, you know I LOVE a good quote. Here’s one I was drawn to recently that comes from an interview with researcher & author Brad Stulberg on the Good Life Project podcast. The episode is about change and Stulberg’s new book Master of Change, and at the very end, host Jonathan Fields asks him what it means to “live a good life.” Here is how Stulberg responded:
“Knowing your values and having them as an internal dashboard. When you face disorder and change, use your values to help you walk into the unknown.”
Spring Workshops Start this Month!
Earlier this week I shared the launch of two spring workshops, the two-hour workshop, Making Change Happen, and the Spring Intensive called Community-Centered Engagement.
The first of the “Making Change Happen” workshops is only a few weeks away, on March 21!
During the two-hour workshop we’ll be covering a lot, and I’ve created a workbook that you’ll receive digitally to go along with the workshop. For this workshop, I’ve also created a discount code for students.
The Spring Intensive on “Community-Centered Engagement” doesn’t begin until April, with the first of three online sessions beginning on April 10.
However, there’s a discount for early registration that will end on March 15. Additionally, this workshop is designed to be small, with lots of small group break out sessions, and is already beginning to fill up.
I’m really excited about the focus of this Intensive as we work together on many facets of community engagement, such as community involvement, audience participation, and co-creation — understanding how these models can help guide a community-centered practice.
Now it’s your turn — what are you reading & listening to?
I can’t wait to hear from you, and for us all to learn from each other.
In the Comments section below, I invite you to share what you’ve been reading or listening to recently. And what is something little (or big) that you’ve been learning?
I am looking forward to continuing this year of learning, growth, and change! Thank you for being a part of the Agents of Change community!
