When the weight of today’s challenges feels overwhelming, it can be hard to stay motivated.
But sometimes, all it takes is a shift in perspective—a tiny spark of joy and possibility—to reignite your drive for positive change.
Recently, I found that spark in an excerpt from Ayana Elizabeth Johnson’s upcoming book What If We Get It Right? Visions of Climate Futures (which I highly recommend pre-ordering!). In her excerpt “A Note on Hope” (linked below), she reflects on her complicated relationship with hope, advocating for a commitment to joy and possibility while emphasizing the need for practical action, love, and community to create meaningful change. She also includes quotes from Joanna Macy, Rebecca Solnit, and others that really resonated with me right now.
Johnson’s ideas have inspired so much of my recent work as I focus on building a more radical, transformative future within the fields of museums and nonprofits. Her question, "What if we get it right?" has even become a prompt I use in workshops to help participants think deeply about their visions for the future and what steps they can take to start getting there.
So, I want to open this up to you:
What motivates you to keep pushing for positive change, even when it feels daunting?
What’s sparking your passion to make a difference right now?
How are you imagining possibility, joy, and action in your work, your community, or even your personal life?
I’d love to hear your thoughts—what fuels your vision for the future?
